Engels - English Book Club

Speciaal voor jou

English: the most widely spoken language in the world and in fact the second language of the Netherlands. Speaking and writing English well is therefore more important than ever. We will help you communicate in English more effectively: at work, for your studies, in professional emails, etc.  We will also help you better understand English-speaking culture, literature and customs. A whole new world will open up for you.

Who for?

Do you already have a good command of English and would you like to broaden and deepen your knowledge of the language, culture and history of the English-speaking world? In this course you do all this by reading a novel every month and talking about it in English with others under the guidance of an experienced teacher. Talking about literature with others is fun and inspiring.

The course

In this course you will read nine fascinating novels: six classic and recent novels chosen by the instructor and three novels which the group will choose by mutual agreement. This way you deepen your knowledge of the language, improve your speaking skills, discover new writers, come into contact with other readers and learn more about the culture and history of different English-speaking countries.

The lessons

Based on a number of themes and questions, you exchange your reading impressions with others during the lesson. The teacher each time will discuss different language aspects and will briefly situate the novels in their historical and literary context. This way you practice your English and enrich your reading experience. The course is taught entirely in English. Both native and non-native speakers are welcome. The course is in principle on location but can also be online or hybrid by mutual agreement. Classes are on the third Thursday evening of each month: September 19, October 17, November 21, December 19, January 16, February 20, March 20, April 17, May 15, June 19 from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm.
